Production and productivity

La produzione è la quantità di prodotto immesso sul mercato da una certa impresa nell'unità di tempo (p.es. "N° autovetture all'anno").
La produttività è invece la produzione per ogni unità di lavoro e si indica in termini di "prodotto annuo per addetto".
Non esiste diretta correlazione tra produzione e produttività perché entrambi questi indici possono crescere/decrescere indipendentemente l'uno dall'altro.
Esempi: La robotizzazione e l'automazione provocano un aumento di produttività, ma non necessariamente di produzione. Quando durante i conflitti gli uomini andarono al fronte e le donne entrarono in fabbrica con meno capacità fisica a svolgere determinati lavori pesanti, la produttività diminuì senza peraltro impedire alle imprese di aumentare la produzione.
